Perks receives Don and Paul Heye Award

January 13, 2016

EE Lecturer Gary Perks was awarded the 2015 Don and Paula Heye Award for Outstanding Teaching for the College of Engineering.    Gary Perks has been instrumental in developing "flipped classroom" techniques to enhance student learning.   Instructive videos were created for students to view outside of class meeting times.  This allows students to spend more time with engineering problem solving during the formal meeting times.   Gary has also developed some of the EE department's first summer classes (Lectures and Laboratories) that can be delivered to students while they are on internships or in activities around the globe.  Gary is currently working on extending this method of teaching delivery to more of his course offerings.   He also freely shares his instructional materials with his faculty co-workers.
