IEEE student group sponsors Summer Day Camp

August 09, 2012

The IEEE student chapter sponsored their second annual Engineering Summer Day
Camp from June 18 to June 22, 2012.  Thirty five
junior high and senior high students from local schools and across the state
were engaged at the camp.  IEEE camp leader, Sutton Smiley, and seven college
student camp counselors put together the curriculum and supervised the camp
activities.  Technical projects included a robot competition, construction of a
solar powered USB charger, and artwork made from electronic components.  The
group spent time on hikes through Poly canyon, playing ultimate frisbee and an
all-out water balloon fight.  Plans are already in place to recruit new camp
counselors for summer 2013 from the incoming freshman Electrical Engineering
class this fall.
