Announcement: ECEDHA Recruiting Program Evaluators

Memo to:            ECEDHA Members

Subject:                               Recruiting Accreditation Evaluators from Industry and Government

Date:                     11 August 2009

From:                    Nick Tredennick, Chairman, IEEE Committee on Engineering Accreditation Activities

As a part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening engineering education, IEEE is active in the professional accreditation process conducted by ABET.  The March, 2009 ECEDHA conference in New Orleans evoked constructive dialog about strengths and weaknesses of current ABET accreditation criteria and processes, and IEEE will continue to work through its representatives on the ABET Board to improve the cost/benefit ratio of accreditation for participating degree programs.

An important part of IEEE’s commitment to ABET accreditation is identifying volunteers to serve as Program Evaluators (PEV) at campuses in the United States, monitoring their training, assigning PEVs to institutional visits and assessing subsequent performance.  While demand for accreditation visits continues to grow, the pool of PEVs—especially from industry and government—has not.  The IEEE requests your help in making the opportunity to serve as a PEV known to a group of individuals that already have many of the desired characteristics for this role—current and former members of your school and program industry advisory councils.  See attachment for additional information
